At Spokane Falls Recovery Center, our partial hospitalization program (PHP) is the highest level of treatment we offer. Many people who have a substance use disorder also have one or more co-occurring mental health disorders. Following successful drug or alcohol detox, individuals who do not require around-the-clock care can transition into our partial hospitalization program. Patients in our PHP receive comprehensive care that is individualized, evidence-based, and holistic to provide healing from the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual damage caused by addiction. What Is a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?
Sometimes referred to as a day program, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a level of care that provides the intensive treatment of a residential program but does not require patients to stay overnight. Compared to outpatient programs, a PHP requires more time to be spent in treatment. Partial hospitalization programs are very effective in treating substance use disorders, especially for individuals who are motivated for recovery and have a stable and supportive home environment. Many individuals who choose a PHP also decide to reside in a sober living home to have extra support during the nights and weekends.
At Spokane Falls Recovery Center, patients in our partial hospitalization program meet with our clinicians to develop an individualized treatment plan. Activities and programming within the PHP are designed to support patients’ unique needs and treatment goals and can include:
- Weekly individual counseling
- Required drug screening
- Nutritional education and support
- Co-occurring capable services
- Yoga, meditation, and massage
- Life skills training
- Case management services
Patients generally participate in programming for 30 hours per week, broken into six hours per day, five days per week. Group therapy and 12-step programs are significant components of addiction treatment in our PHP. Every individual’s journey through treatment will be different, but on average, patients remain in our PHP for 30 days.
What Happens After Completing a Partial Hospitalization Program?
Recovery is a lifelong journey that begins with the acknowledgment that you need professional addiction treatment. The next step is detox because treatment cannot be successful when substance use clouds one’s thinking, judgment, emotions, and behaviors. Following detox, the next phase of treatment will depend upon your circumstances and treatment needs.
The PHP program at Spokane Falls Recovery Center can help patients step down to our intensive outpatient program (IOP) and addiction outpatient program. In doing so, patients receive continuity of care. Furthermore, they have the continued support of a sober peer group that shares similar goals. In progressing through these levels of care, patients can slowly reintegrate into the community while practicing their newly learned skills and benefiting from continued professional support.
What Are the Benefits of a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) can be an integral part of treatment at many different stages of recovery. In early recovery, a PHP is beneficial for those who do not require 24-hour care, those who cannot commit to the time required for residential treatment, or those who cannot afford residential treatment. After a client attends residential treatment, a PHP is ideal for receiving continued treatment and support while slowly integrating back into regular life. A PHP is also beneficial for individuals who have relapsed and need help to get back on track.
