An assessment and intervention is our process to learn about an individual’s history with substance use and to determine what level of care is appropriate. This is a crucial first step in our rehab admissions process. Without this information, we are unable to effectively place individuals into the appropriate programs they need for recovery and success.

Screening for Addiction and Assessing the Need for Treatment

new client beginning with an addiction assessment and interventionThe first step of joining treatment at Spokane Falls Recovery Center is screening and assessment. These initial steps help us understand the circumstances of a person who has substance abuse problems or who, based on their current patterns of behavior, is at risk of developing them.
Screening and assessment are performed by one of our trained clinicians, someone who is trained and experienced in understanding addictions. We use ASAM criteria (guidelines established by the American Society for Addiction Medicine) to determine what level of treatment is most appropriate for an individual’s needs.

Brief Intervention Services

An intervention encourages a person with substance use issues to seek treatment, based on how their addiction has affected them and the people around them.

Brief interventions are question-and-answer conversations between a provider and an individual, designed to motivate someone with substance use issues to seek treatment. Brief interventions are evidence-based practices, supported by science and clinical results. If one of our clinicians asks you or your loved one questions about addiction or goals for treatment, they will treat you with professionalism. (A brief intervention is not a dramatic confrontation with a large group of friends and family like you may have seen on TV.)

Spokane Falls Recovery Center staff are trained to use brief interventions to encourage people who have serious dependence issues with accepting more intensive treatment at our facility or with accepting a referral to a higher level of care at another treatment facility. Our goal is to help people access the right level of care for their situation, based on the severity of their addiction or the substances that they use. Different substances may be addressed with different types of treatment.
